Uniting African American Voices for Darfur The New York Coalition of One Hundred Black Women hosted a riveting forum on the crisis in Darfur titled: “Denial, Silence, Apathy – The True Enemies of Humanity – Darfur”, on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Columbia University. Nothing less than outrage at the atrocities taking place in Darfur, the prevailing apathy of so many, and the sluggish action of the international community was expressed by all who attended. Several audience members went as far as to express their personal regret for not paying more attention to this crisis.
NYCOBW Joins Coalition Against Sexual and Labor Trafficking –
Spitzer Signs Law

On June 6, 2007, NYS Governor Eliot Spitzer signed into law one of the toughest and most comprehensive laws in the nation that addresses human trafficking for both labor and sexual servitude - they now carry a penalty of 3 to 7 years and 3 to 25 years in prison, respectfully! The law provides comprehensive services for trafficking victims, addresses the demand for sex trafficking by increasing penalties for patronizing prostitution, clarifies NY law on sex tourism and mandates strong penalties for traffickers.
A Conversation With... 
The Arts Committee, Laura Green, Chair, launched the “A Conversation With …” series of intimate interviews on June 20th to a standing-room only crowd at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater - The Joan Weill Center for Dance featuring Artistic Director, Judith Jamison and veteran news reporter and anchor Roz Abrams.

A Symposium on the Depiction of Black America
held June 26, 2007
This collaborated symposium is an outcome of the Coalition’s active participation in the collective efforts that resulted not only in the firing of radio personality Don Imus, but most importantly, of much needed dialogue among all Americans. The Coalition issued press releases, participated in a press conference at 30 Rockefeller Center, and an interview with President Griffith was featured in the NewsDay newspaper.
The Family Love Letter
On April 23, 2007 the New York Coalition of 100 Black Women joined with The Transition Network, the Asian Women’s Leadership Network, the Institute for the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly, and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women in presenting a seminar to provide women with information needed to put their financial houses in order.
